Finally, Medicare explained in an easy-to-understand way and at no cost to you! The right plan can give you better benefits and save you thousands of dollars in premiums and healthcare costs. My name is John Lobertini, I’m a licensed Medicare Insurance Agent in California, Arizona, Nevada, Kansas, Tennessee and Georgia. I understand this can be an intimidating process, but we have the tools to help you find the best plans your doctors, specialists and prescription drug providers accept.
Original Medicare is made up of PART-A (at no cost to you) and PART-B which carries a $185 monthly premium that pays for your Medicare card/number. It’s important to note: this plan ONLY covers 80% of your medical costs, YOU PAY the remaining 20%. But those costs can grow because there's no cap on the 20% you owe. With Original Medicare, you’re also required to buy a Stand-Alone Prescription Drug Plan. That's a necessary feature but also a requirement; it helps you avoid a 1% late enrollment penalty.
Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans pay for the remaining 20% in medical costs not covered by Original Medicare and sometimes with No Deductible. They include a Prescription Drug plan along with Vision, Hearing and Dental coverage for little or no extra monthly premium! Some even pay for fitness club memberships. MAPD’s have NO DEDUCTIBLE for the prescription drugs people take most in Tiers 's 1, 2 & 3; AND, in 2025 federal legislation is capping out-of-pocket drug costs at $2,000. Medicare Advantage Plans also pay BOTH the Part A Hospital deductible ($1,684 per visit) and the Part B deductible of $257.
These plans fill the coverage gaps that exist under Original Medicare Part A & Part B. Medigap Plans, also known as Supplemental plans, are a good fit for people with chronic health conditions because they offer the freedom to go to any Medicare approved provider. But the monthly premiums under these plans often increase every year; so it's important to compare rates in your area. In addition, some Medigap Plans do not pay the $1,684 Part A Hospital Deductible and NONE of them pay your $257 Part B Deductible. Medigap Plans do not come with additional benefits like Dental, Vision and Hearing which means those services are going to cost you extra. Generally, your total annual healthcare cost under a Supplemental Plan is going to be equal to the amount you're paying in premiums for a Medigap Plan, Stand-Alone Prescription Drug Plan AND your Medicare Part A and/or B deductibles.
